Seller of the Week: Kristina Ehlers

October 25, 2022 9:42am by rob

Welcome back to another edition of Seller of the Week: the blog series where we ask our favorite sellers five easy questions!

Kristina Ehlers (AKA kzombified on BikeList) is a bike mechanic living in Des Moines, Iowa. We love her cool custom bicycle component clocks (I already bought one for my office). And this Liv Beliv low step road bike is super cool, too!

How did you get into bikes? I started commuting to work by bike about a decade ago to save money. It slowly turned into working on my own bikes, friends' bikes, getting a job at a bike shop, and eventually getting a full time gig there. My interest only grew from there, getting into mountain biking, cyclocross, and finding out what fixed gears are all about. I even tried out a 100k gravel race, and survived. I now ride more days than not, for business and pleasure around town. Each biking style has their own perks and qualities, I love a bit of all of it.

Oldshovel on BikeList!

September 19, 2022 12:53pm by rob

How many bikes is too many? I currently have around 20 (a dozen built up plus another 8 frames and parts) and consider that to be a pretty good number. However YouTuber Oldshovel has 57 bikes and has decided he needs to let some go. In this video he goes through all his bikes and identifies several that he will be listing on BikeList. So far he has listed a Pro-Flex 856, a Novara Ponderosa and a Easton Reflex. Stay tuned for more!

A while back we shared some tips for listing a bike for sale online but neglected to include some examples. Well, here is one that just listed today. This OPEN Cycles U.P.(P.E.R.) medium is available on BikeList for a great price and can be found here.

The first photo for the listing shows the entire bike.

1994 and 1995 Trek 930/950/970

July 25, 2022 3:36pm by rob

The 1994 Trek 930/950/970 bikes were completely revised from the 1993 version. They were still made in the USA using True Temper tubing, but now the frames were TIG welded instead of lugged, and as a result had cleaner lines and lower weight. In 1994 I was working as a mechanic at Start to Finish in San Francisco, so I built up lots of these bikes. The 930 was one of the best selling bikes in the shop, priced right around $500. All three bikes shared the same frame and fork, but the parts spec improved as you spent more. I used my employee discount to buy an Ice Blue 950 with Shimano LX, but then built my own wheels and switched back to old school 7 speed XT thumb shifters. I loved that bike. The 1995 year bikes were basically unchanged other than color. As chance would have it, we now have FOUR of these frames for sale on BikeList. If you follow Instagram, you will know these bikes have become incredibly popular for anything from custom builds and restorations to commuter bikes and bikepacking. They are absolutely bombproof and represent a truly great era for Trek. Get one for yourself and see!
