BikeList Featured in Bicycle Retailer!

April 17, 2023 8:57am by rob
Last week I talked to Bicycle Retailer's Ray Keener for an article he was writing on BikeList. As chance would have it, we both worked at Palo Alto Bicycles many years ago (though not at the same time) and knew some of the same people. To research his article, Ray contacted several shops selling on BikeList to ask them about their experiences selling on our platform.

To learn more about our nonprofit program, Ray talked to Pedal it Forward, a nonprofit shop in Bentonville, Arkansas.

“Local shops have given us tons of leftover stuff like apparel, accessories and shoes,” noted Executive Director Kenny Williams. “We don’t have much demand locally, and we’re selling several items every month on BikeList.”

And to learn more from independent shops, Ray reached out to Acme Bicycles in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Owner Tim Rangitsch recounted his experiences. “When Pro’s Closet had overbought and stopped taking shop submissions, we were left with a bunch of old road bikes we couldn't give away,” he remembered. “eBay’s fees were too high and their policies were shitty and not shop-friendly, so we turned to BikeList. You know you’re going to get your 9.9%. With eBay it’s a bit of a mystery. Plus BikeList uses Stripe for payment, so it’s always secure,“ Rangitsch concluded.

Paris-Roubaix Roundup on Cycle Jerks Podcast!

April 14, 2023 11:16am by rob
My favorite pro bike racer Alison "Action" Jackson danced her way to victory last weekend in a super exciting edition of the women's Paris-Roubaix. I didn't really follow the men's race, but the guys from Cycle Jerks did! Be sure to catch their roundup on this week's podcast!

This week we review epic Paris-Roubaix Femmes and Mens races. Did John Degenkolb get the MALACHI CRUNCH? We discuss this and some rude riders out on one of Beau's rides. Was HE the rude one?

90s Flashback: RockShox at Paris–Roubaix

April 7, 2023 4:54pm by rob
The legendary Paris–Roubaix is this weekend, and I thought it would be fun to take a quick look back at some of the awesome RockShox-equipped bikes that were raced at Paris–Roubaix in the early 90s. Pics from Road Bike Action (RIP)

Greg LeMond rocked a RockShox in 1993.

Gilbert Duclos-Lassalle won with a RockShox in 1992 and 1993.

Steve Bauer went with this crazy super slack long wheelbase Merckx in 1993.

Johan Museeuw went with a full squish Bianchi in 1994.

BikeList for Nonprofits and Co-Ops updated!

April 7, 2023 2:02pm by dan

It's always been 100% free for Bike Co-Ops and related not-for-profits to sell on BikeList - - we waive all fees for 501(c)(3)s, which is a pretty good deal! We released an update last week to make it easier to find nonprofits in the marketplace.

1. There's now a "Nonprofit" label on listings for verified organizations.

2. And a label on the member profile.

3. And the Nonprofit page now includes a list of all Nonprofit members and their active listings.

We'll be adding more benefits for our Nonprofit members throughout the year. If you know of a Co-Op, please send them our way!

American Flyers Camera Bikes

Rick Denman, the designer and operator of the camera bikes used in 1985 cult classic American Flyers, recently posted a detailed behind the scenes look at making the movie and how they shot the bike riding and racing scenes. He reveals how John Slawta (who later became Land Shark) modified a Schwinn Paramount into the ultimate camera bike.

Check out it on Facebook!

AND, if you are a fan of Land Shark bikes, be sure to watch the recent feature on John Slawta on Gravel Cyclist.

#BikeFriday now on the blog?

March 31, 2023 9:21am by dan

Welcome to #bikefriday
Here's Mick on a lovely Condor.

Rob stepped out from BikeList HQ for a few minutes. Just long enough for me to take over the blog and slip in this post. We've been posting a random bike photo over on our LinkedIn Page every Friday for a while now. I can't remember how that started, but it's been fun. Let's see how long this will last over here.

Do you have a suggestion for a future #bikefriday pic? Leave it in the comments below.
