New: Make Offers on select BikeList listings

September 29, 2022 2:43pm by dan

We just added a new feature to BikeList, the Make Offer button. This button allows buyers to propose a new price to the seller and for the seller to accept, reject, or propose a counter offer. We even allow the buyer and seller to send notes along with the offers and counter offers!

The Make Offer Button only appears on listings where the seller has enabled the button. Read on for instructions how to do that.

If you have an existing listing on BikeList, log into your account and select each listing you want to edit.

While editing your listing, make sure the Make Offer checkbox is checked. It's about half way down the listing form. If it's already checked, then Make Offer is already enabled. After checking the box, make sure to save your listing!

That's it!

What to Expect:

A Make Offer button will appear on your listing everywhere it appears on the website. Once a member makes an offer, the seller will receive an email notification. You will need to respond to this offer within 24 hours or it will automatically expire. Options are to Accept the offer, Reject it, or send a Counter Offer back to the buyer with a private message.

If the seller chooses to Counter Offer then they can enter a price and a comment which will be sent to the buyer in an email notification. The buyer can choose to Accept, Reject, or Counter the seller's counter offer! Once an offer is Accepted or Rejected an email notice will be sent to both parties and the buyer will need to click on the link in the email to buy the item at the offered price.

The New Offer email takes the seller to this page in their account where they can accept, reject, or counter offer.[/caption]

Here is the email that the buyer receives after their offer is accepted. The buyer is required to click on the link to purchase the item at the agreed price.

We're super excited to see how BikeList members will use this new feature. If you have any questions about Make Offer, we'd love to hear from you!
